A vertebrate model of extreme physiological regulation

Article Abstract:

The Burmese python, Python molus was investigated as a model among animal species, that is adapted to consuming large meals at long, erratic intervals. A python's metabolic rate increases within three hours of feeding due to the metabolic costs of regulatory processes. Other snake species share pythons' feeding habits, and the metabolic costs and regulatory spans of digestion in species of infrequently feeding, ambush-hunting snakes and species of frequently feeding and actively foraging snakes were measured.

Tree trail to Chaco Canyon

Article Abstract:

Research into the origin of the large roof timbers at the ancient Native American site of Chaco Canyon is presented. It was found that two-thirds of the timbers could be traced to the Chuska Mountains and one-third to the San Mateo Mountains. Timber from both sources for the same year was found in use in a single house.
