A week in Auk-land
Article Abstract:
The number puffins and murres in Tatooshh Island seems to be dwindling, even if their habititat is ubundant with food - an indicator that there is something wrong with the ecosystem. By-catch is one of the reasons why the bird population is dropping, birds get caught in fish nets as they dive for fish. Another reason is that bigger birds eat the eggs and chicks of other birds and steal fish from parent birds that feed their young.
