Adaptive differentiation following experimental island colonization in Anolis lizards
Article Abstract:
The view that environment has a key impact on the evolution of morphology has been supported by research using populations of the lizard Anolis sagrei. These were introduced onto small islands in the Bahamas from a nearby source. It was found that they quickly differentiated from each other over a period of between 10 and 14 years. It can be ascertained that populations respond quickly to new environmental circumstances. Furthermore, this response has similarities with large-scale patterns seen on macroevolutionary timescales.

Analysis of an evolutionary species-area relationship
Article Abstract:
Theories on area speciation rates on Caribbean islands are discussed, with reference to the Anolis lizard. Speciation on islands exceeding 3,000 square kilometers mainly comes from within, whereas smaller island speciation is mostly by immigration.

The number and type of genetic changes underlying pelvic reduction in natural populations is determined. Pitx 1 is described as a major chromosome region, which controls most of the variation in pelvic size.
