African elephant vocal communication I: Antiphonal calling behavior among affiliated females
Article Abstract:
The existence of cooperative vocal enhancement of female African elephant rumbles that might function to attract males to their group is tested. Results reveals that affiliated female African elephants exchange rumbles antiphonally, and imply multiple functions for such vocal exchanges.
