Altered pain perception and inflammatory response in mice lacking prostacyclin receptor
Article Abstract:
The effect of the prostacyclin receptor PGI sub 2 was examined by disrupting the gene for the receptor in mice. The PGI sub 2-deficient mice seemed to behave normally, reproduce normally and had normal blood pressures. However, the tendency toward clotting of the blood increased in the receptor-deficient mice. The inflammatory and pain responses of the receptor-deficient mice also decreased to the level of that observed in wild-type mice treated with indomethacin. The study indicates that prostacyclin, which appears to have a role in reducing inflammation and pain, is an anti-clotting agent in vivo.

Role of citron kinase as a target of the small GTPase Rho in cytokinesis
Article Abstract:
Citron, a splice variant of a Rho target protein, contains a protein kinase domain that is connected with the Rho-associated kinases ROCK and ROK. These kinases control myosin-based contractility. ROCK does not seem to be vital for cytokinesis. However, the localization of citron to the cleavage furrow and the unusual movements produced by delta-1 during cell division suggest that this Rho effector plays a role in the contractile process of cytokinesis.

Impaired febrile response in mice lacking the prostaglandin E receptor subtype EP(sub3)
Article Abstract:
Fever is elicited by exogenous pyrogens, such as lipopolysaccharide (LPS). This stimulates the production of cytokines such as interluekin (IL)-1Beta. Aspirin-like anti-inflammatory drugs can suppress fever, and they can inhibit prostaglandin biosysthensis. Mice lacking prostaglandin E(sub2) receptor subtypes were generated, and only mice lacking EP(sub3) did not show a febrile response to PGE(sub2) and to either Il-1Beta or LPS.
