An ephemeral pheromone of female house mice: degradation by oxidation
Article Abstract:
Ephemeral pheromone in female house mice is non-volatile and is possibly degraded by oxidation. A study to determine whether male responsiveness to the ephemeral pheromone and the pheromone's loss in aged urine were due to volatility or oxidation, shows that sexually experienced and inexperienced males have to physically contact fresh urine prior to vocalizing. There is no attenuation of loss of the ephemeral pheromone of strong freshly voided urine in an air-tight syringe. Beta-mercaptoethanol or dithiotreitol can prevent the loss of activity of the ephemeral pheromone.

Investigation of potential male mate choice in a monogamous spider
Article Abstract:
A study of male mate choice pertaining to female body weight and reproductive status in the desert, funnel-web spider, Agelenopsis aperta, reveals that female spiders emit chemical or phermonal cues to attract males for mating. Enhanced usage of chemical cues by matured virgin females comes to an end after they mate.
