Astronomers told to cut it out
Article Abstract:
The National Science Foundation (NSF) officials informed astronomers during the American Astronomical Society's annual to bring the country's astronomy spending under control. In order to make these cuts, which are economically and politically necessary, a panel of 13 senior scientists will consider the scientific value of the various facilities, as well as their training capabilities, decommissioning costs and overlap with other observatories.

Astronomers leap to defence of extra seconds in time debate
Article Abstract:
Experts are trying to decide whether to keep on adding leap seconds to keep universal time in line with Earth's rotation or to abandon this practice. Astronomers want to continue to add leap seconds because the telescopes will be able to find galaxies and stars in their places in the sky.

Astronomer Guillermo Gonzalez believes that his intelligent design, which has shown that an intelligent force has shaped the Universe, has cost him his tenure at Iowa State University. Iowa State's president Gregory Geoffroy is reviewing Gonzalez's appeal on the denied tenure.
