Attack on a convoy of nucleons
Article Abstract:
One of the methods of detecting nuclear halos around a certain class of light nuclei involves study of spatial coordinates through the translation of reaction cross-sections for collisions to size. However, the method is difficult as the nucleons shield each other from the projectile during collisions of halo states with other light nuclei. This shielding indirectly provides knowledge about the halo radius, although it is underestimated. Another technique considers the instantaneous structure of the halo system, and results obtained can be corroborated with data for each subsystem.

A shattered halo
Article Abstract:
Experiments were conducted to determine the structure of the neutron halo observed in lithium-11. Inferences about the halo were made on the basis of data about the momentum of products of its breakup. A beam of Li-11 atoms was slammed into both light and heavy metal targets and the momentum of outgoing Li-9 fragments parallel to the beam measured. The halo was found to have a simple structure. It was found that the motion of the neutrons in the halo are not correlated.

'Magic' nucleus (super 42)Si
Article Abstract:
The measurements of (super 42)Si and two neighboring nuclei using a technique involving one-nucleon and two-nucleon knockout from beams of exotic nuclei are reported. A strong evidence for a well-developed proton subshell closure at 14 protons, the near degeneracy of two different proton orbits in the vicinity of (super 42)Si, and nearly spherical shape for (super 42)Si is presented.
