Australian industry joins scientists' protests at geology cuts
Article Abstract:
Earth scientists and the mining industry in Australia are opposing the funding cuts proposed by the government for the Australian Geological Survey Organization (AGSO). The proposed cuts include decreasing AGSO's annual budget by 30% and staff by 25%. Activities of the research vessel Rig Seismic will either be stopped or handled by private contractors. The industry is opposed to this as it says it has already paid for the vessel in the form of taxes. Scientists say that they should have free access to the vessel.

University cuts 'lack real justification.' (higher education funding for Australian universities)
Article Abstract:
Various universities in Australia are opposing plans for the reduction of funds appropriated for higher education.
