Avoiding autoreactivity
Article Abstract:
The somatic mutation in germinal center B (GC B) cells can reduce affinity or change the receptor's specificity to become autoreactive even as the affinity of GC B cells for antigen is significantly increased. A much larger proportion of GC B cells die by apoptosis when a large amount of soluble protein bound by the cells' antigen-specific receptors is injected. Several other mechanisms that are likely causes of GC B apoptosis are presented.

Covalent inhibition revealed by the crystal structure of the caspase-8/p35 complex
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the structure of the p35 protein from baculoviruses in a complex with caspase-8 from humans. The mutagenesis and biochemical research carried out on this structure are discussed.
