Balancing a bird's diet
Article Abstract:
In the wild, African white-throated bee-eater catch diffrent kinds of bugs and snails to end up with a balanced diet. In captivity like those in the Bronx Zoo's World of Birds, crickets and lives bees enriched with calcium and other nutrients are toosed in the air for the birds to catch. As for toucans, some of the exotic fruits that they normally eat are not available, and so the Zoo experiment's with canned goods such as olives and fill them with cocoa butter resembling black fruits in the wild.

The Bronx Zoo's first chef
Article Abstract:
Rudolf Bell was the Bronx Zoo's first chef in october 5, 1899 and stayed there for 35 years. He was a former circus butcher and a lumber camp cook. He started out being responsible for feeding only four animals, and by the time he retired in 1935, the Zoo's collection already reached almost a thousand animals.
