Bat orientation using earth's magnetic field
Article Abstract:
The impressive array of sensory abilities possessed by bat for navigation in the dark was demonstrated by studying the homing behavior of Eptesicus fuscus known as the big brown bat, which rely on a magnetic compass to return to their home roost. The observation from artificially shifting the earth's magnetic field in conjunction with other cues such as sunset or stars indicate that some experimental bats corrected and homed during the same night despite being initially orientated away from home.

Marine iguanas shrink to survive El Nino
Article Abstract:
Members of island populations of Galapagos marine iguanas become shorter by up to 20% when El Nino events cause food shortages. Body length increases again during later El Nino events when a large amount of algal food is available. The increased rainfall connected with El Nino eliminates green and red algal species, the preferred food of marine iguanas. Environmental changes connected with El Nino can cause the death by starvation of up to 90% of marine iguana populations on islands.

Costs of migration in free-flying songbirds
Article Abstract:
The authors discuss the study of energy cost of migrating songbirds. The researches have injected 38 free-flying Swanson's and hermit thrushes with 0.1 ml of doubly labeled water and followed the birds until they landed at a stopover habitat where the birds were recaptured and investigated, and results demonstrate that both the natural flight and stopover are costly in cool weather.
