Behind enemy lines
Article Abstract:
Jef Dupain, a Belgian primatologist studying the endangered human-like bonobos, had to abandon the work in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) due to the civil conflict between Congolese Army of President Joseph Kabila and Movement for the Liberation of Congo in 1997. In 2002, with the UN peacekeeping forces deployed throughout the country, Dupain took advantage of the relative calm to check on the condition of the Congolese primate he had been studying.
