Biodiversity, bioparks, and saving ecosystems
Article Abstract:
Biodiversity around the world is being imperiled by rapid population growth in Third World countries as well as rapid economic progress approximating the destructive dimensions of Western economic development. Present conservation programs for endangered species continue to make wide use of in situ and ex situ breeding programs, which are inadequate in saving entire ecosystems. Ecosystems management is proving to be a better alternative to these programs. Education of the public through bioexhibits such as those seen in bioparks is another method that can go a long way in solving the problem.

Killer pigs, vines and fungi: alien species threaten native ecosystems
Article Abstract:
Alien species have changed the ecosystems of many parks and forests in the US. These species have not spread naturally, but have done so as a result of human action. Out of all the animals and plants listed in the US, alien species are a threat to 18, the most threatened of which are found on true islands or biological islands. The federal government has been unable to prevent the introduction and spread of these species due to lack of co-ordination and funding.

Conserving ecosystems at Eglin AFB
Article Abstract:
Eglin Air Force Base in Florida is one of the most biologically important military lands in the country. It is home to nine federally listed endangered or threatened plan and animal species and to 82 natural community types, many of which are excellent examples of regionally important communities. The base's commanders and its natural resource managers are fully committed to managing its unique ecosystems in the best possible way.
