Bodies of evidence
Article Abstract:
Wildlife pathologists make vital contributions to wildlife conservation by furthering knowledge of wildlife biology, wildlife diseases and the effects of wildlife interaction with the human environment. There is still surprisingly little known about these subjects, and each necropsy wildlife pathologists perform adds potentially critical information to the current knowledge base. Wildlife pathology suffers from a chronic lack of funding and a negative public image. Most of the specialty's full-time practitioners are women. Their research also benefits species recovery and reintroduction programs.

Article Abstract:
San Francisco Zoo's Avian Conservation Center was designed to breed and rear endangered and rare birds. It is a quiet and remote place, located 500 yards from the Pacific shore. Although the center is not open to the general public, special tours are available. The center has an incubation room, neonatal facilities, and a video-monitoring system for studying the behavior of birds.
