Molecular genetics arrives on the farm
Article Abstract:
The genetic defects responsible for hyperkalaemic periodic paralysis in Quarter Horses and leukocyte adhesion deficiency in Holstein cattle have been identified. However, it is not yet known whether the genetic causes of these diseases are inseparably linked to the desirable traits for which the animals are bred. If they are not so physiologically linked, they could probably be eliminated by recombination.

The genetics of vulnerability
Article Abstract:
Tuberculosis is a major global health problem in the world as the estimates indicate that as much as one-third of the world's population is infected with the tubercle bacillus Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The susceptibility to tuberculosis is found to be controlled genetically and the researchers are finding it difficult to unravel the genetic component that controls this disease.
