Bradykinin and nerve growth factor release the capsaicin receptor from PtdIns(4,5)P2-mediated inhibition
Article Abstract:
It has been established that bradykinin- or nerve growth factor-mediated potentiation of thermal sensitivity in vivo needs expression of VR1, a heat-activated ion channel on sensory neurons. It was possible to identify a biochemical mechanism through which bradykinin and nerve growth factor create hypersensitivity.

Spider toxins activate the capsaicin receptor to produce inflammatory pain
Article Abstract:
Venom from a tarantula that is native to the West Indies is shown to contain three inhibitor cysteine knot (ICK) peptides that target the capsaicin receptor (TRPV1), an excitatory channel expressed by sensory neurons of the pain pathway. The TRP channels are included among the targets of peptide toxins, showing that animals, like plants, avert predators by activating TRP channels on sensory nerve fibers to elicit pain and inflammation.
