Breed effects and heterosis in advanced generations of composite populations on actual weight, adjusted weight, hip height, and condition score of beef cows
Article Abstract:
The actual weight, weight adjusted to a common condition and score, hip height and condition scores of nine parental breeds and its three filial generations were compared. The different breeds significantly influenced the traits studied. The heterosis effects did not differ between one-year old and at least 2-year old cows, while heterosis for weight, hip height, and condition score of the cows were dependent on the dominant genes present in the resultant generations.

Effects of breed and retained heterosis on milk yield and 200-day weight in advanced generations of composite populations of beef cattle
Article Abstract:
Evaluation of the differences among nine parental beef cattle breeds in milk yield, and determination of the relationship among breed group means for milk yield and 200-day calf weight was done. Breed group effects were significant for all measured parameters. The breed group rank for milk yield correlated with the rank for 200-day calf weight. Retained heterosis effects on milk yield were significantly high (14.5%) in F2 generation dams nursing F3 generation progeny.

Article Abstract:
The effects of parental breeds and heterosis retention in successive generations of composite cattle population were evaluated. Composite populations established from nine cattle breeds were examined for pregnancy rates, birth rates and calf production. Results showed significant breed effects for all evaluated characteristics. On the other hand, heterosis effects showed considerable variations across the traits examined.
