Care for the community
Article Abstract:
Heightened resistance to microbial pathogens is thought to be provided by the remarkable memory component of the vertebrate adaptive system but invertebrates that do not have an adaptive immune system are no less challenged by the microbial world yet remain healthy. They mostly rely on their innate immune system, which is an ancient mechanism present in all animals that do not typically remember previous encounters.
