Syngenta and Pioneer Hi-Bred, formed a 50-50 venture to enter into the agricultural biotechnology industry, that was dominated by Monsanto for a decade, with Green Leaf Genetics planning to license traits from Syngenta and Pioneer to many small, long established local companies that supply farmers with corn and soya bean seeds. The venture would help farmers to get the benefit of technology from both these companies and from the local seed company.
