Alpha-particles and leukaemia
Article Abstract:
Experiments indicating that alpha-particle radiation causes genetic instability that initiates the development of leukemia could also be interpreted conversely: nonclonal chromosomal instability would then lead to leukemia. However, alternative views are that alpha-particles' role in generating leukemia has been confirmed by studies of the lethal effect of 239PU alpha-particles in mice. Moreover, the incidence of leukemia must be examined before the role of chromosomal instability can be evaluated.

Is thalidomide mutagenic?
Article Abstract:
W.G. McBride believes thalidomide is mutagenic, citing two cases of thalidomide-induced deformities passing through fathers to one each of their children. Though the scientific community has largely denied his hypothesis as unsubstantiated, the media has published McBride's hypothesis without the other scientists' views. The media should publish a balanced version while more tests on thalidomide's mutagenicity will be conducted.
