Cohabitation in the cuprates
Article Abstract:
A group of researchers have found that the temperate where superconductivity sets in in an exquisite lanthanum cuprate crystal, Tc, is the same as where a static internal magnetic field develops. This revives the question of whether magnetism is beneficial or harmful to superconductivity in such materials. The incommensurate magnetism arises from the frustration of magnetic moments attempting to achieve low-energy configurations in the crystal lattice constraints.

A candidate dust disk surrounding the binary stellar system BD+31deg643
Article Abstract:
A circumstellar dust disk has been detected around the binary stellar system BD+31deg643. Coronagraphic images of BD+31deg643 revealed a nebulosity within 20 arcsec of the main-sequence binary stellar system that is linear with a disk-like morphology. The midplane surface brightness gradient is approximately symmetric between the southeast and northwest extensions from 4 to 20 arcsec projected radius.
