Row over alternative medicine's status at NIH
Article Abstract:
The suggestion that the $12.5 million Office of Alternative Medicine (OAM) at the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) should be upgraded to a National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine Research has attracted considerable controversy. Indeed, some observers believe that OAM should be abolished. Supporters of OAM feel that it has failed to investigate and validate alternative therapies because NIH bias against it has made it almost completely ineffective.

Marijuana research gets backing at NIH
Article Abstract:
A panel of scientists created by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) indicated that the potential of marijuana as a therapeutic agent needs further examination. Pharmacology Prof. William Beaver, the chairman of the panel, emphasized that data on the therapeutic value of smoked marijuana are very scarce. The panel is still in the process of completing its report containing its formal recommendation on the fate of marijuana research.
