Companies cool to tactics of global warming lobby
Article Abstract:
BP America, a subsidiary of British Petroleum, and Arizona Public Service Co. have opted out of the Global Climate Coalition, a US lobby group that has disputed the findings of UN climatologists about the severity of manmade global warming. Both companies expressed disappointment over the group's attack on science, such as its accusation that scientists working for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change are trying to over-emphasize the role of human activities in climate change. The coalition, however, says it has new members and continues to be the leading business representative in climate change.

Old scores surface as African states face new opportunities
Article Abstract:
Many African countries support strong legislation to protect the continent's biological resources against foreigners in principle, but they do not feel that this should prevent them negotiating deals from which they could benefit. Some countries have adopted a pragmatic stance, but Ethiopia remains strongly opposed to both bioprospecting and patenting. Nigeria and Cameroon have joined the International Cooperative Biodiversity Groups.
