Controlled green oxidation
Article Abstract:
Chemists and biochemists attending the Seventh International Symposium on Dioxygen Activation and Homogenous Catalytic Oxidation discussed problems associated with existing catalysts for homogenous oxidation, as well as progress in developing new homogenous oxidation catalysts. They reported that research into highly selective biological catalysts and many metal-containing synthetic catalysts is leading in the direction of the ideal oxidation catalyst. Significant progress has been made with understanding and controlling selectivity in homogenous oxidation reactions and in producing high-value oxidized organic materials with little environmental impact.

Continuous beds: high-resolving, cost-effective chromatographic matrices
Article Abstract:
An innovative and inexpensive method for obtaining chromatographic matrices of macromolecules has been developed. The method, which allows the synthesis of beds with the same useful properties as the agarose beads used until now, resolves the problem of constructing a chromatographic bed for which the width of a zone is independent of the flow rate or decreases with the flow rate. The new continuous bed has walls that cannot be permeated by peptides and proteins and whose rough surface allows the use of non-laminar flow. The method shows promise for further improvement.
