Cooperative hunting and group size: assumptions and currencies
Article Abstract:
Measures of hunting success in African wild dogs must take into account both benefits and costs. It seems most appropriate to focus on net rate of intake. If it is not possible to convert cost and benefit to common units, efficiency can give accurate results if a number of assumptions prove correct. It is possible to contest the view that cooperative hunting has little impact on group living in carnivores. However, it is true that other ecological factors are also significant.

Sex-biased dispersal in African wild dogs, Lycaon pictus
Article Abstract:
Male African wild dogs delay the dispersal longer, emigrate in larger groups in the presence of their opposite sex parent, and move further than the females. Nonindulgence in mating within close relatives exists despite frequent opportunities. Female dogs establish a reproductive home range adjacent to their natal one, thereby exhibiting greater spatial philopatry. This is consistent with the dispersal pattern of monogamous iteroparous mammals and other carnivores.
