Crystal structure of the sodium-potassium pump
Article Abstract:
The crystal structure of the sodium-potassium pump with two bound rubidium ions is discussed. The carboxy terminus found in the [alpha]-subunit of the pump is found to control the sodium affinity and the membrane potential of the compound.

The structural basis of calcium transport by the calcium pump
Article Abstract:
The crystal structures of the calcium, [Ca.sup.2+]-ATPases are studied to explain the transport of calcium by the calcium pump in human bodies. The release of [Ca.sup.2+] is found to be facilitated by the translocation of the M4 helix.

Crystal structure of the plasma membrane proton pump
Article Abstract:
The technique of X-ray crystallography is employed to explain the crystal structure of the plasma membrane proton pump. The proton pump is shown to have a large cavity, which is normally filled with water.
