Did aggregation favour the initial evolution of warning coloration? A novel world revisited
Article Abstract:
The conclusion that gregariousness would select for warning coloration while a solitary prey distribution would not, is investigated using the same novel prey and wild-caught great tit predators. No difference in attack rate on cryptic and aposematic prey was found, and the attack rate on aposematic prey was lower in the solitary treatment after one attack. This does not support the notion that aggregation favours the evolution of warning coloration in unpalatable prey.

Decision time and prey gregariousness influence attack probability in naive and experienced predators
Article Abstract:
A new study uses chicks, Gallus gallus domestricus, to investigate the effect of competition as a means of influencing decision time on predator behaviour towards prey exhibiting aposematic coloration.

Seasonal polyphenism and leaf mimicry in the comma butterfly
Article Abstract:
The comma , Polygonia c-album, exhibits seasonal polyphenism with a darkish winter morph and a lighter summer one. The conclusion states that the evolution of the summer morph is consistent with the life history hypothesis and that its choice of summer root sites is associated with a low predation pressure.
