The Royal Caribbean cruise, 'Explorer of the Seas' has two sophisticated laboratories for atmosphere study and ocean research. The Oceanographer Rik Wanninkhof is examining the level of carbon dioxide in sea from self-made device placed on the Explorer of the Seas, which reveals a correlation between temperature changes and Co2 level.

Article Abstract:
The different strategies used by the laboratories in order to reduce their energy use are discussed. The U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have created the Labs21 program in order to tame the ventilation of the laboratories and also save energy.

Electronic laboratory notebooks have offered a partial solution for the researchers, as it allows the sharing of data to the immediate benefit of collaborators. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have disclosed that the use of electronic notebooks is acceptable in drug filing.
