Diet and nutrition of male canvasbacks during postreproductive molts
Article Abstract:
Adult male canvasbacks initiate a series of molts following reproduction and they have increased protein need which involves selective foraging. A study undertook to determine the diet composition of postbreeding male canvasbacks in relation to their molt, and looked at whether the protein requirements affected food choice. It found that variations to diet composition were linked to food availability, rather than specific nutrient needs for molt.

Linking breeding and wintering areas of King Eiders: Making use of polar isotopic gradient
Article Abstract:
An investigation was done on variations in isotopic signatures of King Eider feathers of known winter location to determine if the technique would be useful in determining the North American wintering area of breeding King Eiders of unknown winter origin. The findings suggested that some contour feathers were occasionally grown from nutrients acquired on freshwater habitats.

Tracking nutrient allocation to reproduction in Barrow's goldeneye
Article Abstract:
The evidence for marine-derived somatic nutrient transfer into eggs is discussed along with its influence by laying order. Results suggest the utility of the stable isotope approach in cases where isotopic endpoints are well established.
