Distribution and relative abundance of forest birds in relation to burn severity in southeastern Arizona
Article Abstract:
Birds in 8 Sky Island mountain ranges in southeastern Arizona, USA were surveyed to examine how the distribution of 65 species and relative abundance of 16 species correlated with evidence of severe and less severe fire at > 1,500 survey points with the aim to assess the effects of fires on the montane forest bird community. Most species were found to be positively associated with burned areas and displayed stronger associations with survey points that had evidence of severe as opposed to less severe fire.

Effects of experimental nestling harvest on prairie falcons
Article Abstract:
The consequences of long-term nestling harvesting on prairie falcon populations were investigated. Specifically, experimentally harvested and nonharvested sites in southwestern Wyoming were compared in terms of territory occupancy, nesting success, producticity as well as breeder and nestling return frequencies. The 1982-89 study's results indicated that although harvesting negatively affects 'local population parameters,' it does not impact population size.

Dusky-footed woodrat demography and prescribed fire in California oak woodland
Article Abstract:
The effects of prescribed understory fire and shrub density on a population of dusky-footed woodrats live-trapped each spring and fall from October 1992 to 2001 were investigated. The findings suggested that prescribed understory fire in oak woodland is not likely to alter woodrat populations significantly if patches of well-structured habitat are maintained.
