Do bird nestmates learn the same songs?
Article Abstract:
A potential subtle form of pseudoreplocation in song-learning experiments, equally applicable to other forms of imprinting experiments, in other taxa and other stimulus modalities was identified. It was concluded that any genetic or environmental factors shared by nestmates early in life are minor relative to the effects produced by genetic differences that exist between subspecies and the effects produced by postfledging experience with song tutors.

Avian nest defence behavior: Assessment in relation to predator distance and type, and nest height
Article Abstract:
The nest defense behavior is examined in relation to predator distance and type, and nest height in three closely related Acrocephalus warblers, moustached warbler, A. melanopogon, reed warbler, A. scirpaceus and great reed warbler, A. arundinaceus. The results obtained point to dynamic risk assessment and nest defense behavior in Acrocephalus warblers.

To have and have not: Volatile secretions make a difference in gyrinid beetle predator defence
Article Abstract:
The effect of low molecular weight substances such as 3-methyl-1-butanal and 3-methyl-1-butanol together with the norsesquiterpenes on gyrinid beetle defence is investigated. Results suggest that gyrinids that possess both norsesquiterpenes and volatiles are better protected against fish predation than gyrinids that possess only norsesquiterpenes.
