Effectiveness of a vegetation-based approach to insect conservation
Article Abstract:
Insect conservation efforts can be enhanced through vegetation-based approaches. These should include data on plant community richness, genus richness and species richness, correlated to habitat requirements of the target insect populations. Hot spot approaches lack the ability to preserve rare species even at finer spatial scales, while vegetation-based policies preserve species at coarse-filtered scales.

Population persistence in Florida torreya: comparing modeled projections of a declining coniferous tree
Article Abstract:
The Florida torreya (Torreya taxifolia) is a coniferous tree found along the east side of Apalachicola River in northern Florida and southern Georgia heading towards extinction. The results derived from the Stage-class transition matrix model (RAMAS) and an individual-based stochastic model (TORSIM) sensitivity analysis showed a significant decrease in growth and sprouting probabilities.

Using Population Count Data to Assess the Effects of Changing River Flow on an Endangered Riparian Plant
Article Abstract:
Tennessee's Hiwassee and Ocoee rivers were used as study sites to determine whether changes in flow would influence extinction risk of Pityopsis ruthii. Using diffusion approximation and census data, findings show that this method has wide confidence limits; implications are discussed.
