Effects of roads on movements by understory birds in mixed-species flocks in central Amazonian Brazil

Article Abstract:

A narrow, seldom used road through undisturbed Amazonian forest was studied to find how the linear disturbances and movements affect the area requirements of understory birds that form mixed-species flocks. The reports indicate that flocks respond to a road as they would to a long linear gap and since they are unwilling to cross the open area it becomes a flock territory boundary.

Reduced feather growth rates of two common birds inhabiting central Amazonian forest fragments

Article Abstract:

Studies done on the abundance patterns and feather growth in two species of understory birds, the Wedge-billed Woodcreeper and the White-crowned Manakin that occur in fragments and continuous forest are reported. The study indicates that birds in poor physiological condition are more likely to be captured in fragments than in continuous forest.

Effects of Road Clearings on Movement Patterns of Understory Rainforest Birds in Central Amazonia

Article Abstract:

Research on Amazonian bird species shows that insectivorous birds are much more susceptible to the negative impacts of roads than are edge and gap and frugivorous species. Local movements were limited even by narrow roads exhibiting low-traffic volumes.
