Effects of simulated jet aircraft noise on heart rate and behavior of desert ungulates
Article Abstract:
Captive desert mule deer and mountain sheep decrease their responses to simulated low-altitude aircraft noise as exposure increases. This was found in a study of the effects of low-altitude jet aircraft noise on the behavior and heart rate of mountain sheep and mule deer. Heart rates and behavior of these animals were measured before, during and after simulated overflights during three seasons. There was an increase related to dB levels of the heart rates of the ungulates as well as changes in animal behavior during overflights.

Effects of jet aircraft on mountain sheep
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine the effects of jet aircraft overflights on mountain sheep from Jan 1990 to May 1992 in the Desert National Wildlife Refuge, NV. Findings showed that habitat use and activity of sheep exposed to the aircraft were similar to the control group. This suggested that noise levels created did not alter behavior or use of habitat or increase heart rates of the exposed sheep.
