Effects of the moratorium on listings under the Endangered Species Act
Article Abstract:
The moratorium on the listing of animal and plant species under the Endangered Species Act poses a danger for many rare species facing extinction. Several species with low level populations are left out of the the recovery plans that initiate protection of the diminishing species and their habitats. The impact of the moratorium will depend on the act, pace of developmental activities and rarity of the unlisted species. Although 80% of the plants are yet to be listed, some of them on private lands are expected to benefit from habitat conservation plans.

Colorado endangered species protection bill introduced
Article Abstract:
Senator Dorothy Rupert, a Democrat in the Colorado General Assembly, has introduced the Colorado Native Species Conservation Act to strengthen Colorado's laws on endangered species. The bill will increase the fines for poaching endangered and threatened species from $2000 to $5000 and for sale of the species from $100,000 to $500,000. The bill would control state recovery plans and the designation of a critical habitat plan based on scientific knowledge. The bill would codify the elements of the Memorandum of Understanding.
