Electroluminescent device with reversible switching between red and green emission
Article Abstract:
Researchers in the Netherlands have developed a simple electroluminescent device using a semiconducting polymer and phosphorescent complex. The device can emit either red or green light, depending on voltage applied. The polymer is based on polyphenylenevinylene doped with a dinuclear ruthenium complex.

Smoke signals for lung disease
Article Abstract:
Abnormal production of the matrix metalloproteinase MMP12 can lead to emphysema in lab mice, according to a new study exploring the question of why only 15-20% of smokers develop emphysema. Mice lacking both MMP12 and the protein beta6 integrin do not develop emphysema.
