Evidence for de novo imprinted X-chromosome inactivation independent of meiotic inactivation in mice
Article Abstract:
X inactive specific transcript (Xist) transgenes, located on autosomes, do not undergo meiotic sex chromosome inactivation (MSCI) in the male germ line of mice and induces imprinted cis-inactivation when paternally inherited with identical kinetics to the Xp chromosome. Paternal Xist gene at zygotic gene activation is sufficient to trigger cis-inactivation of the X chromosome, or of an autosome carrying a Xist transgene.

Three's company
Article Abstract:
The advantages of using rats in the genome research are discussed. The rat serves as an important model for studying the human physiology and disease, while the study of its genome sequence will enhance our ability to associate genes and mutations with traits and genome research diseases at the same time allowing us to study characteristics specific to rodents.

Genome sequence of the brown Norway rat yields insights into mammalian evolution
Article Abstract:
The genome sequence of the Brown Norway(BN) rat that represents a high-quality draft, is described. The BN rat was the third mammalian genome to be deciphered in a three-way comparison method.
