Evolutionary games and spatial chaos
Article Abstract:
A spatial version of the Prisoners' Dilemma metaphor may be useful in biology, mathematics and physics. The Prisoners' Dilemma is a game that shows the paradoxical conflict between cooperation and defection in behavioral evolution. Neither strategy will allow a player to succeed. However, the spatial version of the game produces unpredictably altering arrangements of prisoners who can last forever either as cooperators or defectors. Computer programs designed to carry out the spatial Prisoners' Dilemma have yielded marvelously complex and beautiful patterns.

The cheetah controversy
Article Abstract:
Caughley and Merola have discovered that cheetahs, which were considered to exhibit less genetic variability, have diverse features and characteristics that are inherited genetically the existence of cheetahs over wide ranges of climatic conditions and geographic regions ascertains their genetic variability. The discoveries of Caughley and Merola refute the theories proposed by O'Brien or the genetic diversity exhibited by the cheetahs.

British birds by number
Article Abstract:
Issues concerning variations in bird numbers and diversity in the UK are discussed. The number of rare species is detailed, and the prospects for individual species are considered. There are almost 40 more bird species in the UK at present than at the beginning of the 19th century.
