Extrapair paternity and offspring immunocompetence in the reed bunting, Emberiza schoeniclus
Article Abstract:
The generality of the finding that an enhanced cellular immunity in extrapair young (EPY) in a passerine bird, the bluethroat, Luscinia svecica is assessed using the reed bunting, a passerine with an extrapair mating system similar to that of the bluethroat. Results reveal that female reed buntings do not seem to engage in extrapair copulations to achieve the same type of genetic benefit as in bluethroats.

Male Acadian flycatchers, Empidonax virescens, obtain extrapair fertilizations with distant females
Article Abstract:
Genetic parentage analysis and radiotracking is used to determine how far male Acadian flycatchers travel from their territory in search of extrapair matings. It is suggested that when males have few adjacent neighboring females, the benefits of searching widely to increase the number of potential extrapair mates can outweigh the costs of extrapair forays.

Intense extrapair behaviour in a semicolonial passerine does not result in extrapair fertilizations
Article Abstract:
Extra pair behavior of male serins birds was studied. Observations indicate that females reject extra pairs attempts at copulation and male serins guarded their mates and copulated regularly.
