Fish can infer social rank by observation alone
Article Abstract:
Studies have shown that male fish (Astatotilapia burtoni) can successfully make transitive inferences (TIs) on a hierarchy implied by pairwise fights between rival males. The results have indicated that a universal mechanism underlying TI is unlikely, as animals use multiple domain-specific representations adapted to different social and ecological pressures that they encounter during the course of their natural lives.

Rapid worldwide depletion of predatory fish communities
Article Abstract:
Analysis of community biomass and composition of predatory fishes in four continental shelf and nine oceanic systems indicate that industrialized fisheries reduce community biomass by 80% within 15 years, while meta-analytic approach the current large predatory fish biomass is 10% of the pre-industrial levels.

Why mothers matter
Article Abstract:
Larger female fish are more productive than smaller ones and produce better offspring than younger ones. This discovery can aid fisheries to maintain their quality and population.
