Fly eyes get the whole picture
Article Abstract:
A research work reveals how flies improved the resolution of their eyes dramatically by evolving a specific modification to how their photoreceptor cells stick together. Experiments suggest that the diptera may have 'opened their eyes' by a single change of reprogramming the expression of Spacemaker for novel expression in the ommatidia.
