From deep time to late arrivals
Article Abstract:
Adolf Seilacher and colleagues claim to have found evidence of complex, multicellular animals in sediments of over 1,100 million years old, from the Chorhat sandstones in central India. They suggest that the markings from the tops of bedding planes are tunnels made by small worms. If such markings are accepted as evidence for the existence of animals over a billion years ago, the time span of the animal fossil record would be doubled.
