GATA4 mutations cause human congenital heart defects and reveal an interaction with TBX5
Article Abstract:
The isolated cardiac septal defects in a large pedigree is linked to chromosome 8p22-23 are investigated. The missense mutation of GATA4 to heterozygous G296S resulted in diminished DNA-binding affinity and transcriptional activity of Gata4, which is an essential transcription factor for heart formation.

A genetic blueprint for cardiac development
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the occurrence of developmental control gene mutations which result in abnormalities in the cardiac development of human embryos. The reprogramming of genes causing congenital heart disease is discussed.

An ongoing genetic battle
Article Abstract:
Surgical and medical advances have helped to cure children born with a heart defect. Some heart conditions arise as they reach adulthood, which seems to have the same genetic cause as the primary defect.
