Genome-wide analysis of genetic alterations in acute lymphoblastic leukaemia
Article Abstract:
A combination of high-resolution, single-nucleotide polymorphism arrays and genomic DNA sequencing is employed to perform a genome-wide analysis of genetic alterations of leukaemic cells in acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). The analysis reveals that the direct disruption of pathways that control the B-cell development leads to B-progenitor ALL pathogenesis, which is then used to identify and study new molecular lesions in cancer.

Human meiotic recombinase Dmc1 promotes ATP-dependent homologous DNA strand exchange
Article Abstract:
Mutations in Dmc1 (disrupted meioses cDNA1) cause no discriminible mitotic phenotype but lead to a constellation of meitotic abnormalities. Human Dmc1 protein (hDmc1) is examined for the ability to promote DNA strand exchange, and show that hDmc1 mediates strand exchange between paired DNA substrates over at least several thousand base pairs.

Functional consequences of a CKIdelta mutation causing familial advanced sleep phase syndrome
Article Abstract:
The identification of a missense mutation (T44A) in the human casein kinase I (CKI)delta gene, which results in familial advanced sleep phase syndrome, is reported. Transgenic Drosophila carrying the human CKIdelta-T44A gene showed a phenotype with lengthened circadian period.
