Going through the motions: Fish & Wildlife Service's critical habitat moratorium
Article Abstract:
The Endangered Species Act emphasizes the importance of critical habitat and the part it can play in the recovery of endangered species. However, the US Fish and Wildlife Service seems reluctant to protect critical habitat, which it says will not be designated unless under court order. It appears that critical habitat designation has become a political issue, but with proper funding and enforcement, critical habitat could help both public and private resource managers with straightforward guidance necessary to protect the nation's declining wildlife.

On the fringe of the prairie
Article Abstract:
Missouri's limestone glades are found along the fringes of tallgrass prairies and contain significant plants, including the endangered Missouri bladderpod. The US Fish and Wildlife Service recognizes the importance of such areas and is working with The Nature Conservancy to restore habitats which would benefit the bladder-pod, whose existence is threatened by the invasive eastern red cedar and with which it cannot compete.
