Goldin wants more NASA biologists as Gore is briefed on space plans
Article Abstract:
NASA administrator Dan Goldin said in a meeting of space scientists in the presence of vice-pres Al Gore that there is a need to conduct more researches on astrobiology and to employ more biologists. He further said it is imperative that the science of the origins of life be understood prior to building more spacecrafts. The meeting was conducted to inform Gore about the US space science program in preparation for a US 'space summit' in Feb 1997.

Biologists challenge sequencers on parasite genome publication
Article Abstract:
Issues concerning competing approaches to the way in which genome sequences are published are discussed. Scientists at sequencing centres wish to publish the annotated sequence as soon as possible, while others wish to use the sequence data in their research into the organisms involved.
