Habitat and avifaunal recovery from livestock grazing in a riparian meadow system of the Northwestern Great Basin
Article Abstract:
Recovery of a riparian meadow system from livestock grazing was compared in an exclosure plot, where livestock had not grazed for about 30 years, and an adjacent open plot, where livestock were removed just before the four-year study began. The exclosure plot had more sedge cover, forb cover, and herbal foliage height diversity, while the open plot had more bare ground, litter cover, shrub cover, and shrub foliage height diversity.

Degradation and environmental conservation: response to Mishra and Rawat
Article Abstract:
India's livestock grazing policies do not conflict with conservation efforts. While intense grazing can create stand structure differences, these changes do not necessarily lead to land degradation. The development of conservation programs, however, should include evaluations of micromanaging for individual species against overall sustainable management of the ecosystem in general.

Livestock grazing and biodiversity conservation: comments on Saberwal
Article Abstract:
Human land-use policies can have a significant impact on conservation efforts. Livestock grazing practices in India have compromised species diversity in both plants and animals, but is not immediately apparent as physical signs such as erosion have not occurred. Land-use policies should be backed with extensive scientific research rather than visual observations.
