Global-warming sceptics left out in the cold
Article Abstract:
A US National Research Council (NRC) panel has concluded that a discrepancy between satellite based and ground based measurements of global temperature does not call into question the warming up of the Earth's atmosphere. The disparity may be due to short term perturbations in the climate record, or may mena that existing climate models are limited.

Heat gets turned up on climate research city
Article Abstract:
The loss of irreplaceable data on climate changes and a set back in understanding global warming is predicted due to the proposed budget cuts at some of the world's leading atmospheric science laboratories. According to Dave Hofmann, acting director of the Climate Monitoring and Diagnostics Laboratory in Boulder, Colorado, the steep budget cuts would lead to gaps in the records of levels of greenhouse gas, ozone, aerosol and solar radiation.

Sceptics and salmon challenge scientists
Article Abstract:
Concerned sectors are opposing plans to dynamite four hydroelectric dams on the Snake River in a bid to restore salmon stocks in the Colombia River. The antagonism reflects public frustration over the years and billions of dollar spent on techniques that have done little to conserve the river system. Scientists fear that false public perceptions and the weakening of the gene pool of naturally born salmon will further complicate the quest to boost salmon stock in the Columbia River.
