Herpes simplex virus turns off the TAP to evade host immunity
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine how the herpes simplex virus (HSV) evades detection by the body's immune system. The results show that HSV expresses the cytosolic protein ICP47 to block the presentation of viral peptides to MHC class I-restricted cells. HSV-infected cells produce class I molecules that are retained in the endoplasmic reticulum, a phenomenon observed in cell lines deficient in the transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP). It was shown that ICP47 binds to TAP, thus preventing peptide translocation to the endoplasmic reticulum.

MHC class II dimer of dimers
Article Abstract:
Major histocompatibility complex (MHC) proteins are of two kinds, class I molecule and class II molecules, both being subservient to a special kind of T lymphocite cells (TCR). Class I molecules interact with CD8 (largely cyotic) T cell, while class II molecules interact with CD4 (predominantly helper) T cells. The structures of the two molecules appear to be similar, however, a model of the class II MHC binding with a peptide in peptide-MHC reactions shows some basic differences between the two.
